Politics and The People.
B. The following ideas are simply an attempt to present my thoughts and ideology in words, on paper. I’ve taken much time during the past few years pondering about how to categorize/breakdown and give words to how the world of politics in the United States and its connection to the people works. These ideas also present the load of information about the government and US History I’ve been exposed to during the last few months.
Why the United States and not the world? It’s simply because I have very little knowledge and experience with the world outside the United States. I’ve been to more places and have seen and experienced much more than the average American, but that hardly means anything.
First of all, I believe that if a person plans to live (long-term) in the United States for any reason other than making money and moving back to his homeland as soon as possible, it is the person’s obligation and responsibility to read, analyze and further study the US Constitution. No excuses. Every citizen should be able to read English. Every citizen should read and fully understand the Constitution. End of discussion.
We live in country of democracy. And in my obviously biased opinion, I believe that America is probably the greatest country in the world. I mean, it is America- land of the free, right? But what does democracy mean? Let’s break it down. According to Wikipedia:
The word democracy derives from the ancient Greek demokratia (δημοκρατία) (literally, rule by the people) formed from the roots demos (δημος), "people,"[5] "the mob, the many"[6] and kratos (κρατος) "rule" or "power".[7]. (wikipedia)
So what does this mean? It means that a democratic government is a government ruled by the mob, or the majority. However, for this kind of government to work, the people must be informed and must have access to all information from the government. The problem with democracy, and the reason for why democracy is dying today in America, is the basic fact that the people can be fooled and mislead. This is why it is important for the people to study the Constitution and know their rights. The most powerful weapon, without a doubt, is knowledge. It’s really fascinating, how the mind, which has no place in space or time, creates these complex ideas and how, with the body, is able to create it in reality. From ideas come action and change.
A critique of this idea would be: what about ‘national security’? If ALL knowledge is given to the people, the country would not be safe. Other countries would know what we know about our technology our military, etc. It would be easy for other countries to take advantage and exploit our freedoms. Without secrets, no government can last. So therefore, there needs to be a correct balance. We need not be a nation of secrets, but a nation of informed citizens. We need not a nation of disinformation and lies, but a nation of truth and honesty.
A little about myself... I consider myself to be of the average? hardworking middle-class population. Disinformed by the government, pissed off, unplugged, and now awake. In addition, on topics like these, I must include that it is important to be of the average population, the norm. It enables the thinker to relate and connect much easier with “the many” or the “mob.” I honestly believe that you cannot lead a country in which you have no relation to. There will always be that disconnect between you and the people.
...continued.
